Jim Romano

After completing his bachelor’s degrees in physics and philosophy at Cornell University in 1989, Jim went on to complete his Ph.D. in physics at the University of Chicago in 1995. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on a search for the top quark.

After completing his Ph.D., Jim found his calling in tutoring. He has been tutoring full-time ever since. Jim's passion lies in math and physics, but he teaches many other subjects as well.

Elizabeth Vann

Elizabeth Vann completed her undergraduate studies in Anthropology in 1985, and her Ph.D. in Linguistic Anthropology in 2000. She began tutoring while in graduate school, and after receiving her degree and briefly teaching at Columbia College Chicago, Yale, and Northwestern Universities, she decided to become a public school teacher. After a career teaching ESL to recent immigrant middle school and high school students in Massachusetts, she took early retirement and returned to Chicago and to tutoring.

Having struggled with Math in school, she is passionate about students building a solid foundation in Math, and takes them through Middle School level math (for which she has teachers' certification and graduate level pedagogical coursework) - but she teaches English, Social Science, and Humanities through college level.
